I've written a query to a NY agent that I've worked with previously (couple of years ago -- great working relationship), when I was co-editor/publisher of a writing magazine (I am co-founder, as well). My book fits her area of expertise. Two questions: (1) I don't want to be too presumptuous, overly-familiar, in my first sentence; but I do want to re-establish my connection with her -- uh, any suggestions? "Long time no communicate" seems too flippant to me. (2) I have always emailed and telephoned her -- do I need to snail mail my query? (Her guidelines say snail mail.) My approach is to see how she's been (sincerely want to know), let her know what I've been doing, and that I would love to get her response. I give her a four week exclusive before going elsewhere. Appreciate the privilege and opportunity to access your wisdom and experience.
In an organizational shuffle, the Wizard's alter ego, Molli Nickell, is now in charge and helping writers shift into the digital world of publishing at www.getpublishednow.biz. Although this blog will be left in place, new material is not being added. Instead, check out updated information about e-queries, synopses, manuscript first pages, writing contests, jump-start consultations and more at www.getpublishednow.biz See you there!
